Hi all,

Well it was bound to happen. In my 35 years of riding I've been stopped by law enforcement a few times, but was always let off with a warning. That streak just ended yesterday.

So, like any responsible, mature individual, whose rowdy days of youth are past, and ready to face life lessons and consequences; I need to make sure this doesn't happen again anytime soon and I would regret soiling the reputation of Ducati riders.

I'm looking to you folks for some inspiration on how to mount my Valentine One on my SSS. Alternatively, if someone has had success with another brand of radar detector, I'm open to the idea, but I really like my Valentine One. I use it in my car all the time (suction cup mounted) and I know nearly certainly in this case, had I had it mounted appropriately on the SSS, I wouldn't be posting this whiny request.

I've searched and found some older posts on the topic, but I'm interested if any new ideas have developed especially with regards to the Valentine One. Personally I would like to mount it somehow in the front fairing where it's not particularly visible, but easy enough to put on and remove. I currently have Ducati heated grips so that power supply may not be available to me. I know some people mount the detector to a tank bag, but that adds complexity to fueling up ( remove or fiddle with bag, etc.) , and potentially could block rearward radar detection ( although fairing mount might do the same thing..).

Any fresh year 2020 ideas?!

I have a great waterproof box mounted on my BMW RT with permanent wiring, but so far, Have not found a better place on the SS than the tank bag. Thing is, they work better up high, and that is as high as I can get it. I use a Marc Parnes LED display on the dash.

I could probably mount that box under the fairing, but then it would be very low, and since I only own 1 V1, getting it in and out would be a huge pain.

Where did you get popped? CHP is getting trickier, they tend to turn the radar on and off as they drive, so I slow if I get a hint of a signal.

if you use a Sena headset you can get audio by using a coiled flexible cable with Male2.0 - mail1.2 jacks. I use a standard mail to female short cable which is secured in a perfect spot forward on the R/H side of the tank. I then have a cable that plugs into my Sena on my helmet. It works perfectly and does not get in the way and when you get off the bike you just pull the plug out of the Female jack and the cable is still on the helmet.

PS the new systems Bluetooth to your phone now.

If you guys do some research you will find that they have moved mainly to Laser detection again with the introduction of new systems that can capture the speed and registration of 5 vehicles simultaneously over 4 lanes in both directions. here in Australia the vehicles equipped with this system just drives around capturing Data and periodically goes back to the depot to download. I am told that they have live Realtime download in the USA.
its a more efficient system for revenue rising.

I use the V1 Bluetooth dongle to my phone. Then JBV1 app to generate an audible signal to my Sena. JBV1 has the added advantage of crowd sourced traffic data. Just be sure you have a head set that can handle intercom and phone/music at the same time. Or, watch your speed when on intercom mode.

I've had a couple of these now. I started with the TPX 2.0 and then moved to the TPX Pro. Mine works great, but I have had an issue though. My TPX Pro stopped picking up Police radar on the Ka band when it was hot. I didn't know this was an issue until I rode with a mate of mine with the same radar and he was picking up cops that I wasn't. The radar was well out of warranty by then, but I emailed Adaptiv in the US and they arranged a replacement free of charge, so happy days!!

After today’s scorching blast around and over Tampa Bay (175km/h), I thought perhaps it would be prudent to buy a RD since I lost my last one (Escort) somewhere amongst the last few states I’ve lived in (Louisiana, Kansas, Colorado and Florida). Not sure when it decided to abandon me but I’ve been riding around naked for the past few years. I assumed some risk and it bit me on the First Annual when @Volambre and I received performance awards in North Carolina.

Anyways, I bought the latest Adaptiv TPX 2.0 since I don’t really need the database feature of the TPX Pro to tell me where red light cameras are. I don‘t ever feel tempted to run a red light. Speed like an ape with his ass on fire? You bet. Run a red light? Nope, nary a temptation.

It seems these are updatable by the individual so hopefully I don’t suffer a gap in detection like @Bad Alice

Oh, yeah. You can be sure I’ll post some photos here. I’m hopeful I can pull off a clean job with the wiring.

I’m optimistic about the mounting configuration. While it’s likely to be a bit ugly, I’m confident it will be practical.

The picture below shows the tray (bottom right) that readily mounts to a RAM platform. That will allow the radar to sit up high but without being intrusive in riding. I suppose I won‘t be able to get into a race tuck but I rarely do on the SS anyways.

We shall see. The kit should be here Friday for a weekend installation, not that my week is much different than my weekend right now.

While the TPX has a lot of positive reviews, I also recognize some are rather negative so I acknowledge I‘ve taken a bit of a gamble. I may very well end up returning the TPX if it doesn’t perform as advertised and getting a V1 along with a Legal Speeding weather case and a Marc Parnes LED light.

I used products out of the aerostitch catalog. Bar mount. Legal speeding helmet light setup. I configured the power cord on my escort to plug into the battery tender plug. Yea, i take it off every time i park and go somewhere, but its not that big, fits in a pocket.
My last trip i took with it, i noticed that all those modern cars with the backup warnings and what not, set off the detector, so you have to have some situational awareness.
As far as the safety or revenue thing, I got pulled by a statie in oregon on 101 between gold beach and brookings. I saw him, he saw me, i hit the brakes, as i was nose diving, i saw my helmet light come on. I pulled over right away, he had me pull forward to a parking area down the road. wrote me at 80, though he had me faster, was thankful i pulle dover right away. After i was given my tithing amount, he asked about the detector. i said, yea, we saw each other at the same time, as i was braking, i saw the light come on. He said, well i run with it off, but if i see something fast, i turn it on. I let him know that if that was the case, then he was purely in it for revenue generation. If you would have been radiating, i would have been going slower for much longer, and that would be safer for everybody, wouldn't it? Yea, thanks for stopping, have a safe trip. Oh, you be safe out there as well.

Late to the party but i have a Sena and always have a phone mounted on my handlebar with Bluetooth. I listen to musoc and use Waze and Google maps for user reported police. I also have a Cobra iRad. The irad hooks to an iradar app that transmits the alerts to the phone and plays them over blue tooth. I bought a 12v dslr lithium ion battery pack and wired it up to the irad radar detector so its a portable unit and i get about 20 hours of runtime between charges. I tuck that unit in my backpack or tank bag depending.
