I'm sure this is a nice bike, but I don't like the exposed exhaust system, which is one of the ugliest I've ever seen. Either make these cat systems look more integrated or cover them with (insulated) bodywork.

If you don't like the BMW's exhaust you must be having a hard time with the piece of dung on the SS, no?

Though I think the BMW's exhaust looks far worse than what we have on the SS, I've fixed the appearance problem on my SS.

Great dash interface - probably nicest digital dash I've seen yet from anyone. But this bike is more like a Panigale, not SS in ergos so not a direct comparison. Also - search around, there is a lot of discord from reviewers in the US that BMW had to retune for emissions or noise - no one is sure why but there is supposedly a super flat torque spot from 1-3k (if memory serves). I suspect people will be seeking to get Euro tunes for these bikes - if they can get them. Or they will not be very pleased. The few reviews I've seen say the older bike is better in the US but the new bike better in the rest of the world.

I agree about these cat cans. Why can't manufacturers (Ducati included) make these things look better. When I got my 1000R a few years back, the cat was already discolored and had rust-like (wasn't rust) showing on it. Why should we have to spend $500+ for a cover on top of a $20,000 bike?

Don't understand your thinking.

Personally, I don't have too much of a problem with the SS exhaust. If there has to be a cat, then this seems as neat as any....... have you seen some of the monster exhausts on some Kawasaki's.

That said, if I had a problem I'd cover it up. Why isn't that problem solved?

Would you have sex with a very ugly woman who wore a mask?

If a wall was crumbling on your house, would you just slap some paint on it?

There must be an alternative way to meet the sonic and exhaust rules without all of this garbage....
Someday a solution will be brought forth....

Hardly the same things. If the cat was corroding through I'd replace it. If the wall of my house was in good shape but I didn't like the color, I'd paint it and consider it job done.

One of the best thing about fully faired bikes is that the manufacturer no longer has to worry about the aesthetics of the engine. Take the fairing off and It won't look anything like as clean and pretty as a CB750. For me, Ducati covered enough. If I felt they hadn't I'd cover more.
