Unhappy Check your side stand spring!!

Almost got thrown off the bike yesterday. Was riding around town, out for a smoke. Just usual riding at about 30-50 kmph. Came across this very slight bump in the road surface and the bike instantly powers off locking the rear wheel, with the sound of a loud metallic clang. For the life of me I could not figure out what that was as the bike started right up and was working fine.

Turns out my side stand has its spring loosened and during bumps and stuff it tends to flick open, sometimes enough to cut the engine.

Thanks Rev!

We’ve had a number of instances of this reported.

Here’s a thread with pics.

Last week on a ride out I was dropping into a left hander and something happened...it sounds just like this. It was just for a split second. It was unnerving and I tried to induce the same thing but it didn't happen again.

I thought it was brake at first, as though a bird had struck the lever, but the bike didn't try to stand up.

Thanks for the heads up Rev!

Considering the risk associated with this issue I have made the first 3 threads “Stickies”.

Have checked mine at several points, and it has not loosened.

So it appears to be happening only to some, but all should be checked, of course.

No it's not the bolt on mine, its the spring itself, its become stretched somehow. I am lost for word, i think it will be it has lost some of its elasticity and it's easier to fold it now that it used to be.

Oh, thanks...I read a bit too fast. Thanks for re-emphasizing this!
