Anyone going to Austin?

I'm headed to Austin for MotoGP the weekend of the 23rd. Almost afraid to leave town because I'm sure my SS is going to arrive at the dealer while I'm gone.

Anyone else traveling in for the races? We should figure out our secret handshake in case we meet in person.

I wish...

But hopefully we have some forum members that are gonna be headed out there. Kinda sucks that you're gonna be gone when the SS gets in though!
I'm going. I'll be at the track on Saturday and Sunday. Got my tickets last November. Sitting in the main grandstand; club level.

Well, I don't know for sure that it'll happen, but you know how the food always arrives at your table while you're in the bathroom. Seems like the same laws of timing are likely to apply.

Cool. Maybe we'll find each other there, Mike. Not sure where we're hanging out much of the time. My best friend knows the parts manager for Suzuki's MotoAmerica team, so i think he'll have some kind of swanky passes for us. It's good to know people who know people.
Have fun, guys. I have gone in the past when Moto GP ran at Indy. I was able to get the day off work, so I showed up on the practice day with my camera and was able to wander the course getting some great shots. Very few people were there compared to the full race crowd so you had opportunities to see parts of the course that you normally wouldn't have access to. I wish Indy was still on the schedule. :(

Where did you get the tickets form? The MotoGP website?

I told my wife that we are going to Mugello next year, as it might be Vale's last ride.

I got them from off of the COTA web site.
Been discussing the same with my missus regarding attending Mugello. Plus a further two weeks around italy, including factory tours of ducati and ferrari. The issue is that my country's president is **** and kills our currency value. Best start saving now for 2018.
Will be watching on TV.

We are going to the Misano round this year - want to see Rossi at his home race before he retired (if he ever does).

Agreed, Patrick. Indy was great. I'm in Cincinnati, so we were up there every year they ran it. My buddy keeps raving about Austin, so I'm looking forward to checking that out.
Austin does look like an interesting track, probably even better than Indy. But I could ride or drive to Indy, Texas is a bit far for a race. Maybe one day . . . Heck, at this point I'd just like see MotoGP aired in the US on a television network that has more than 3 viewers. I've never even heard of the company that has the rights to show the races at the moment. I used to get up really early in the morning on Sundays to watch when it was on FS1.

I sucked it up this year and paid for the MotoGP subscription. Its actually quite good and you get EVERYTHING, practice, qualifying, warm-up etc for all 3 classes. I even paid a little extra for the timing piece which is great during qualifying. You can configure the screen to show multiple views on 1 screen. For example, on Sundays race I had the main "TV" view on half the screen and the other half was split with the lap times on top and I had Cal Crutchlow's rear cam on the bottom while Rossi was chasing him. The views are totally user controlled. I use a chromecast and mirror my laptop to the TV. If you miss the race live you can go back to the "No Spoiler tab" and watch the race in its entirety.
I am hoping to make it down this year but still not 100% sure. Been down for the last 3 years, the track is awesome and Austin is a cool town. If I go this year I'll just grab some general admission tickets, in the past we have done the multi turn pass when available and its a great deal.
Going to this show when in Austin for the race. Heard the bikes are pretty cool.

Been to that show three times, there are some sweet bikes on display there. I will say that the people watching/crowd dynamic has gotten much more interesting with each passing year. The first year it was mostly bike enthusiasts walking around, last year it was like some kind of hipster art show. Still cool though. Highlight of the last show was the guy who rode up on a beat down 749 that had a big screwdriver as a key.
