Stock pipes do sound pretty good, but I'm used to the performance slip-ons on my Monster, which are quite a bit louder.

When you look inside the back of the can, they put three oval indentations, as if to say "we know you're going to drill them out anyway, so here's a place to set your drill bit where it won't walk on you as you start the hole."

Still nervous about taking a power tool near my beautiful machine though. Anyone feeling more adventurous than I want to be the guinea pig for the rest of us?

You're kidding, right!?!

All that would accomplish is remove a short bit of absorption material and leave you with a couple of two inch holes. You would look like those tuner wannabes driving around with their coffee can mufflers/tips. Anyway, the majority of the sound suppression is accomplished in the udder hanging under the bike. You want louder, remove the udder.

Correct me if im wrong but if you want the coffee cup look just unbolt the baffles and leave the aluminium covers, I was watching a you tube and the bike had stock exhaust but frikin loud when I freeze framed it from the back looks like no frikin baffles just the covers.

I had thought about doing the same thing. It works well with some exhaust systems followed by improving the intake air volume. After looking at the SS exhaust system, I agree with Triple S on this one. The system is on the belly of the bike and the cans have little impact on the system. I'm waiting for the aftermarket to catch up on this one.
