black dust or sooth around the right side of the rear wheel tire

Hi. I have noticed a black dust or sooth-like around the rim of the rear tire. It seems to be most prevalent on the left side.

I wonder if it is coming from the chain (lack of lubrication=fry o-rings?) or from the disc break pads?

Anybody has encountered this phenomena?
thanks

Most likely brake dust. I have a red bike, my black wheels don't show it.

It will be brake dust, it's always a proverbial pain, and it does show up on the red rims
Solution : don't brake !

Braking is for cowards !

Yeah but it beats jumping off :laugh:
Yup. Brake dust.

I keep one of these in the garage at all times just for that reason...

Works on my vehicles, too.

My previous ST4s had red wheels. They look great when they are clean, but get ready to spend a lot of time cleaning them because they show everything, brake dust, chain lube, road grime, squirrel guts and the like.

Part of the reason I bought a red SS-S is that it has black wheels. Not that the black wheels are immune from the same stuff getting on them, but it just doesn't show nearly as much.

I'll be sure and stock up on Swifter refills...:grin2:
