Coolant Level in Tank

11024 Views 40 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  amoslws
Can you guys please check your coolant levels in the overflow tank, and advise...

Little hard to read, but mine appears between the min and max, but closer to the min.

What level is yours? (Measure with bike straight up.)

Thanks.

Actually, manual indicates to:

“Steer completely to the left and check that the level is between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the expansion reservoir.
Top up if the level is below the MIN mark.”

So I guess this means check on side stand(?)

My filled cap is not centered, but off to one side, in hole of the plastic cover over the tank...how about yours?

Looks like mine needs to be topped off. Not below the lower level, but getting there. But should it be topped to the upper mark?
Bump
Mostly all levels should be checked with the bike vertical. I cant see the Supersport being any different.

Was thinking the same until I read the manual: “Steer completely to the left...” Whatever that means(?).
Looks like those words about “steer to left” were cut and pasted from the Hyper manual.

Maybe one needs to move the bars to the left on the Hyper to get to the reservoir and it has nothing to do with side stand, etc. Se7en???

And back to the assumption of measuring being upright...

Steeve, Can you see where your level is at (in upright position)?
Mine seemed like there was nothing in there from factory.. I filled mine up to max.

Interesting...

What about others?
When holding bike upright, and cold, mine is about 1/3 of the way up between Min and Max.
Btw, my understanding is that coolant should be added undiluted (no mixing with distilled water). Can someone please confirm...

The manual has a lot of info.

"add ENI Agip Permanent Spezial antifreeze (do not dilute, use pure), until reaching the MAX level"

The coolant reservoir is a header tank and on most vehicles the recommendation is to fill them to the minimum mark and, allowing for expansion in the coolant system, should be at the maximum mark when the engine is hot. Any overfill will just run out of the overflow when the engine is hot.
As long as there is coolant in the header and it is at least to the Min mark it should be fine.

On my Hyper, fluid levels were checked with bike upright...at least that's what I did. Never read the manual for direction.

It is supposed to be checked upright. The manual says to turn the handle bars to the left to check for level on the left side of the steering tube. Don't know why if the level is on the left side, just past where the fairing ends. The manual is messed up in some places

When warm, went up to just below 1/2.
Ducati Service answered me face to face to check up with bike upright despite the manual.

It's so hard to see. I take the cap off and shine my torch inside to light it up a bit.
