Crash/Swingarm Protectors

Hi All,

I've been looking through the forum postings but haven't seen anything specifically related to crash protection. Has anyone put these on their bikes? If so, what brand did you use and has it taken away the "looks" of the bike? Just curious

Hi Thai,

Thanks for the links...I had seen those but thought there was something else out there a little more aerodynamic.
Unfortunately aerodynamics and crash protection will not be easy to find. The protection must protrude beyond the forks, fairing, and swing arm otherwise they will not be offering much protection and will be merely cosmetic. If it's cosmetic the people want then look for end caps etcetera, they look 'pretty'

Very true :smile2:

Has anyone seen the Ducabike sliders? What do you think? I like the way they look but I am worried if there is an impact it will be stress on the engine.

I dont know, off hand, if anybody here has those specific ones. But, the engine will be fine in the event of a crash. Heck, the engine itself IS a stressed member of the frame. No worries.

My Ducati dealer told me the crash protectors wouldn't work if the bike fell over never mind if you crashed it.
I think he's right so didn't go down that road for an expensive item which in most cases wouldn't work anyway.
The fairing is so exposed...just don't drop the bike or crash it guys and gals !

Well Ill be the unfortunate guinea pig for everyone here. I recently happen to drop my bike when I stopped mid way when turning, to go down a steep hill. Made the mistake of putting the wrong foot down, the one facing the downslope, my first time. I try not to stop on slopes as much as possible. It was more a of controlled drop, was trying to muscle it back as much as i could.

So what happened to the bike, right?
The shifter peg was bent up, the toe knob that sticks out. Was easy to bending this back in place.
The shift link was slightly bent inwards, but the ball joint still keeps the shifter working fine. Did a 150 mile trip after that recently, no issue. But will definitely get it fixed when I visit the shop.
The bar end, left side was dinged.

And now for the big one...nothing on the mirrors, nothing on the fairing. Not...a...scratch.

I did a through check the next day and no i dont have sliders and wheel was turned in the direction of the drop too, so the fairing was closer to the ground.

Did I get lucky? I guess. Will I be lucky next time? I wont bet on it.

:surprise: OH NO, klev. That sucks, man. Glad it's mostly ok as far a damage. Very lucky, indeed...

I bet it did. Glad to hear you are ok and thank God there isn't much damage to the bike. On another note, I switched out my OEM bar ends to the DS, if you need one I could check with Joe to see if they still have them in the OEM removal box they are holding for me. Lemme know.

There's a lot to be said for a bike that crashes well. Sorry you had to find out that way!

Thatll be great. Though the damage is really not that bad and doesnt really catch my attention unless I really look for it.

Thanks dude! I might go in to check out the termi whenever they get it. I usually keep my vehicles stock but more minor touch here and there. But im just not a fan of the stock cans

I hear you. I like to add nice "little" touches to my bikes, personalize them as I enjoy looking at the bike every time I can. WRT the cans, been reading the postings on here. Sounds encouraging to say the least. For me, I like the look of the Akra slip-on, but no way in **** am I paying that price just for looks with little to no increase in sound or HP.
