DQS Discussion - Adjustments, failures, etc.....

Whilst out and about I tend to enjoy using the DQS especially from the traffic lights. Anyway I was riding the open roads running in the bike, I had been using the DQS all morning with no issues. Then suddenly I was heading into a turn and the DQS had electronically disabled on its own. I had to use the manual approach for getting the bike home. When home, I restarted the bike and then the DQS came back. Pretty much an ECU reboot.

Interesting but can't say I'd be super surprised by that. May be something an update to the ECU could rectify. You'll have to let us know if the dealer can replicate it when you take it in for service.
Did you wash your bike just before you rode? I am wondering if water seeped into the QS module and messed with the electronics.

I had been riding for over 3 hours and was on the return journey. It just went off on its own. After I restarted the bike it reset and came back on again. I then went to the bike wash to get rid of some coal using a pressure washer all over the bike and the DQS did not play up when going home. It's just strange. Wondering if anyone else had experienced it.
I can think of 3 possibilities. QS component on shift rod fault. QS harness connector fault. Clutch switch fault. If it persists, take it to the dealer and they can quickly determine the clutch switch status by using their DDA. Doubt that it is the ecu, although there was an update for certain vins, but believe it was only for the display.

I shouldn't mention this because I don't want to create hysteria among the ankle biters, but there was a clutch lever perch vendor change early in production. The casting was not meeting spec to include the internal space for the switch. In any event, your best bet is for it to totally fail, rather than be intermittent, so that the troubleshooting can be definitive.
Having been involved in many engineering R&D projects, I would expect nothing less than ongoing integration design changes. Bike is ready for its 1st service. Clocked up the miles over two days. I have a few mentions on my list for the dealer.

What else is on your list?
I'm not being pedantic, I paid cash for the red S 0:), so I expect the bike to be right. Then again it is italian built and not japanese built.
*Tappets - rockers spacing, more clacking than what I would expect at 1000km.
*Exhaust flange emits gases.
*Strange vibration noise from under the seat - possibly the exhaust protector.
*Mirrors mirrors mirrors. Can see s**t after 4000rpm.
*5th gear has slipped out a few times, more than 5 times in 2 days riding. Happens when engine oil is hot and cold.
*DQS failure. Works after reboot.
*DRL failure. Works after reboot.
*Fairing gaps are unequal on the side panels and front.
*Front headlight panel is mounted skew, lopsided.
*Top black sides are not fitted correctly and are not equally snug onto the side panels. I think all fairing related issues stem from the misalignment thus resulting in the other fitment issues.

But I still love it and it certainly ranks high among the bikes I have owned.

But I still love it
I noticed the fairing gaps when I first saw it at motorcycle show. Left side is almost empty except for the radiator knob.

But yeah, i still love it

After its service tomorrow I will spend saturday trying to rectify the gaps. Starting from the headlight and work backwards. Not sure paying ducati labour prices will be a clever idea so I will do it myself. Fairing is a bit of a bugg'r though.

Would like to see what you come up with? Just to be clear, i wasnt referring to the gaps where the pieces meet, but the hollow between the left fairing and the engine/frame.

I'd think the fairing alignment is something the dealer should take care of.
Slips out of 5th gear? That's a worry. Anyone else with gearbox issues?

I've had it happen more than once in 10k miles on my 2014 Multistrada. Interestingly I have most (if not all) false neutrals b/w 5th and 6th too on my Multi.

Maybe you are just habitual to finding neutral between 5th and 6th :grin2:

I can find false neutral between 4-6 easily on the Hyper, but I've never had it pop out of gear. Ever. I don't like the sound of that.
Dealer told me the gearbox needs 4500km to settle. But yeah, I can be at 4000rpm and it goes from 5th to 4th. Let's see how it goes with the new motul 7100 oil poured in today. It's happened around 5 or 6 times, It's not life threatening so I will be patient but it has been reported on the global ducati service network.
Had a couple of false neutrals going from 4th to 5th whilst accelerating quite firmly, resulting in high revs (well over the 6000 I'm supposed to be sticking to) only done 300 miles so far. Doesn't seem to miss when pootling along and changing up. Have also stopped using the DQS when changing from 2nd to 1st when approaching a stop as it's quite jerky so back to using the left hand for a bit!

Likewise, I find the box copes but doesn't like DQS from 2nd to 1st so I too clutch it in.

I also hesitate to DQS-downshift from 2nd to 1st but find upshifts more of a problem. Between 1st and 2nd it's jerky but under hard acceleration between 5th and 6th (sometimes also between 4th and 5th) it's unnerving the way power is very often cut for nearly a second. Works like a charm most of the time but accelerating hard, for instance overtaking someone, it's 50/50 if this extended time of power cutting will occur. Any of you guys experienced the same thing?
