Engine cut out twice today

4781 Views 18 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  amoslws
Hi all. Just coming up to 1000 km service and the bike has performed faultlessly until today. Twice today the engine just died on me. Still rolling, pull in the clutch, hit the starter and it restarted immediately. I think I read a post somewhere on here of something similar. Anybody else suffering this problem? Any suggestions as to what might be the cause?

Your dealer can do a self diagnosis data fault code scan to determine if those occurrences are recorded and a description of the fault.
Concerning to say the least...

Could it be that you were accidentally hittting the kickstand a bit and that made it kill?
There are a few commenting on this now. Obviously there's an ECU or power issue in development. Can I suggest you check the connector on the left of the battery. It feeds the solenoid relay and is permanent live. Needs left side fairing panel removed.

weren't there some 2013s that had terrible problems with the ECUs? hypers maybe?

I have a 2013 Hyper and mine has been flawless. The Ducati.ms forum that I'm a member of did have a few early production units with issues, but only a few...like single digits, I believe.

There was never a recall on them, but there was on the throttle assembly.

Thanks for that suggestion I'm just about to take it in for first service so I'll get it checked :smile2:

Very unlikely I would think, but thanks for the thought
Yeah thanks I'll definitely get it checked, - Due for first service

I asked the tec engineer about this happening to some 939 owners when I picked up my bike on Friday and he said the most likely cause would be the kick stand. Not that you knock it but rather the sensor activates and therefore results in the cut out.
Did your gauges go out? If your gauges went blank then it's not the kick stand or your kill switch.

Details like this are important when diagnosing a problem.

It carries two lives and grounds. It's a bit tricky to get it in properly due to it's position and space constraints.

Ah, that's what it was. I have an old air-cooled Hyper so I'm more well-versed in those issues.

Any feedback on the cut-outs
Hey Amos
It went in for the first service today and no errors showed up on the data analyser, so we're not sure what caused it.
Apparently a very similar fault occurred very infrequently on some 1299 Panicle's, but it wasn't a widespread problem, and the few
1299's which suffered the problem apparently "fixed" themselves as the problem didn't reoccur. The dealer is going to report it to Ducati and asked me to let him know if it happens again. The times that I have ridden it since then it has been perfect so I'm hoping it was just a "glitch"

Well, that's good news. I can deal with a glitch. Note, I said "a". Any more than one would start to bother me a bit. Keep us posted, man.
Did you have them check the supply connector. You can do it too, slide your hand through the left side opening and push that bugger in firmly.
