Exhaust Design

I've been waiting to see what exhaust options become available and got curious about the design because I can't help but notice the huge underbelly 'box' of the exhaust. Looking at the parts diagram it is clear that there isn't much piping (most of the exhaust system is the 'box') so making any type of slip on that eliminates the cat doesn't seem feasible.

I don't have a SS yet as I'm waiting on seeing a decent exhaust option first so I'm curious if anyone knows if there will definitely be an aftermarket slip on or full exhaust that removes the 'box' at a reasonable price? As well as improving sound it would remove a heap of weight!

An Aftermarket exhaust that truly improves sound and reduces weight won't be a slip-on design on the new Supersport; as you said, most of the system (including the cat) is under the engine and the "mufflers" don't do much. Thus, any Aftermarket design will be front-to-back new and expensive, just like the Akrapovic design available now at the Ducati dealer.

Yeah, a major consideration is that the pipes feeding the silencer from the vertical and horizontal need to be the same length, hence the whirly underpipe on the panigale. So simply sticking on a silencer will not work, the full system has to be designed to ensure that both pipes are equal lengths from each cylinder.
With that said, one can easily go to an exhaust fabricator and have one made up, you just need to find the silencer you like and take it along and they will do the rest. Although it will be less costly in stainless you will get the solution you seek for much less than the Akra race system. I had it priced up in stainless and it was a 1/3 of the price in stainless, but I ended up with the Akra instead.
