Flimsy seat lock

Any of you guys having problems with the seat lock? I find it extremely hard to get the catch to grip the hoop and secure the seat. I've had several bikes and never experienced anything like this. Sometimes, when riding without a backpack, I like to stow away my disk lock under the seat but the way the locking mechanism works on the SS I hesitate to do that.

I had issues with my Hyper for a while, too, then I got used to it. Give it a little time and your skill will improve...and the latching mechanism will loosen up a little.
You have to push where your ball sack would sit, if you're the pillion of course. Press the hump. That's the only spot that works effectively for me.

Yes, it's tricky to latch...and doesn't "click".

I explained same problem to my dealer at 1st svce , like you i put my disk lock .

finally he show me how to do ; you have to push just a little in the center, not at the end of seat like i did on my previous vfr 800. Now , the seat is closed correctly, be careful in front of seat you have 2 notches on tank.

Yes mine is difficult to close, I have to give it quite a smack to get it to close. Worried I might damage cover.

To easily close, leave the key inserted in the lock

Hmmm, will give it a try. Tx
Took me ages to figure this out too. A firm downward push on the back of the front seats sorts it - just in front of the rear seat cowl. And as others have said, it doesn't click when it's done.

Tried all different ways until I found a one that never fails to work for me. Pushing down with the heel of my hand on the tallest part of the cowl (about 5 cm/1 inch from the front end of the seat cowl) with my fingers resting on the rear part of the driver's seat area. Works all the time but is weird how you don't get any sensory feedback when the latch locks the hoop.
Would anyone happen to have an assembly drawing of the latch mechanism. My cable from the lock is no longer hooked and I don't dare to put my seat on.

Thanks
This seat not locking on caused me not to ride this weekend. I tried everything. Then I put the cover back on and went in the house pissed off. Grrrrr will try again tonight.

Make sure the lock is in its locked position, without the seat on you can see the lock latch move. Otherwise try pushing on the seat above the latch.

There's an easy way. Push down and back with the palm of your hand on the seat, just before the seat cowl. Push firmly when doing so. Works every time.

Takes a little practice, but once mastered, no worries.

Did u inspect the latch?

Ditto to what @almoslws said. I too find it tricky but if you get it sitting in just the right spot then push firmly in middle of passenger seat area it will click n' lock. I am getting better at finding sweet spot...:wink2:

BTW I went for 10 min ride in town and it was dam# cold...I needed some milk...lol Spring is not coming soon enough for this guy :crying:

Try twisting the key a few tomes to re set the latch. then try again I can get mine in easier these days because I know where it is supposed to sit and where to push but sometimes when your fiddling about you disturb the latch so try the key 1st then take the key out to make sure its in the correct latched possession. good luck and always give it a little tug to see that's its locked in as I got to work once and the seat wasn't even on properly( got my knee almost down on the round about as well..... lucky)

I have the same problem I told my dealer and he said it would get easier in time.
But now I think I got the right touch, I´m pushing it in with my chest lying on top of the cowl ;)

I've only had one experience where I had difficulty with the seat. I had had it off for something or another then couldn't get it lock back in place. It turned out that the latch had somehow moved to the locked position so that pin on the seat could push it back. I fitted the key and turned to 'open' and released it. The seat now snapped in with no problem.
