Hello everyone. Excited about this forum related to the most beautiful motorcycle. I'm a married 55 year old fart that is an empty nester. My wife and I raised two sons that are finally out of the house on thier journey of life.

Got my motorcycle license when I was 19years old and started saving for my first motorcycle. Shortly thereafter I met my future wife where we dated for about 5 years. My motorcycle fund went into getting married and starting a new home. I joked with my wife every time I opened the refrigerator door I would make a motorcycle engine noise Ducati of course.

Every time I would start saving for my motorcycle the funds would eventually find its way into something else like braces for the kids, a new roof, so on...

Along the way I would get a chance to ride by renting or borrowing a bike. I'm finally at a point of my life that I can get my dream bike which is the new SuperSport but I'm a bit scared to be frank. I'm I too old to ride this beautiful example of Italian motorcycle engineering? Obviously my wife is concerned for my safety and I respect her feelings. So I'm on the fence. One moment I'm thinking "F$&K it!, you only life once and I don't want regrets that I didn't get the bike of my dreams". Then one moment later I'm thinking that I have no sense getting a beast of a bike.

Well folks this is my story. Enjoy reading the posts. Ride safely

Cheers

Welcome. You are NOT too old. There is a poll around here that folks can vote on their age. There are several 65+. Take a look.

this bike is not a complete no brain beast.
It has 3 power mode in case it's intimidating you.
It has a lot of safety features like ABS and DTC.

Just go get it, you deserve it !

No way are you to old, test ride one if you can. In urban mode it's very docile @ 75 bhp, even in sports mode it won't get you in trouble unless you ride it that way. It's one of the best handling bikes I've ever ridden and it's sooooo sexy.
First new bike I've had, my last bike being a Z1000. The SS is down on power compared to the Z but it more than makes up for it in every other area. I'm 57 and it's the best all round bike I've ever had.

My advice: Buy the bike - live your dream!
Make sure you spend some one in good gear (I got Dainese "D Air" and can recommend it but there are a lot of other good vendors as well) and also in some trainings. You should make a basis safty training and of corse a cornering training.

I did my driving license when I was 41. Although, I've dreamed about it, as a young man I could not afford the driving license and even less my own motorcycle. So it remained a dream until my father in law had to give up his own dream forever, just a few days before he was about to fullfill it. I remember well that I thought that day: "What are you waiting for? You'll never know how many days are left for you to live your dreams!". The very next day I registered at a driving school to get my license. Since then, the only thing I regret sometimes is, that I should have done it a few years earlier.

Go on do it. I bought my first new bike, a BMW 750 at the age of 18 in Germany, now at the age of 58 I still have four bikes. One is technically the wifes bike and she is older than me.

Life causes death in 100% of documented cases. Playing it safe will get you the same end result, you'll just have missed out on the fun **** in between.

You're not too old age wise. Questions to ask: Are you physically in good health? When was the last time you rode regularly? If it's been awhile, you need to start out slow riding and practice turning, stopping, in an empty parking lot. Then build up speed and eventually the freeways. Wives are always going to be concerned for our health (if they love us). But seeing you happy riding should overrule her concern. No disrespect to the SS, but it isn't a "beast". Now if you were thinking of getting a Panigale R, now that's a beast to beware of.
Good luck with your decision.

Hey there Flying_Squirrel, what is this BS about being too old to ride the SS!!!!! You are NEVER too old to enjoy yourself mate!! I am 66 years old and I ride my SS on a daily basis commuting to and from Sandown Raceway in Melbourne where I own and run a motorcycle rider training business. I have owned lots of Ducati models over a period of many years and have loved them all for their very different characteristics, and I can assure you every single one of them was FUN and they all put a smile on my face every time I rode them. If you are still physically and mentally fit and your eyesight is good then you should GET ON IT MATE!!!!! Don't hesitate Mr Squirrel, it certainly won't be any fun in future years when you are sitting in the nursing home (many many years from now), thinking to yourself "I wish I'd bought that bike" - "I wonder if I would have enjoyed riding". You NEED the answers to those questions and you can get those answers yourself. DO IT TODAY - Place the order, pay the deposit and enjoy it when you get it!! YOU WILL NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!!:wink2::wink2:

If you have concerns about safety, invest in gear. I just placed an order for a new air bag vest. See website link below:

Motorcycle Airbag Vests and Jackets Helite Airbag Experts

I did not know they had a product like this. I know you can purchase A Dainese air leather suit, but they are very expensive. This Helite vest seems like a better compromise and can be worn with any gear.

Mine should arrive in a few days. I will be tracking my SS at Circuit Of Americas, so this should be a good safeguard for track or riding on street.
Showed the video to the wife and she got teary eyed. She is starting to understand my need for the SuperSport.

Then I popped open a nice bottle of wine while I grill lamb chops and showed photo of the Ducati. She liked the it. Slowly but surely I'm winning over the boss.

Mate - JUST DO IT!!!! - What's the worst that can happen? She leaves you - and then your riding time is unlimited hahaha (Only joking) But seriously while you're a partnership you're still individuals and every individual needs a little "ME TIME" every so often, no matter how devoted you are to each other you both deserve that!! Get yourself down to the dealership and place the order mate. Oh and by the way YES white is definitely faster :laugh:
