Hmmmmm. You'd have thought Ducati would do something more about it.
Apparently this has been going on for years with Ducati. Popular wisdom lays blame at ethanol fuel corroding the sensor. I’m not entirely convinced of that but also don’t have the expertise to counter-argue.

Right, ethanol, it expands gas tanks, clogs filters, causes wheel bearings to rust, affects the phases of the moon and the ocean's tides.
I am also experiencing same issue with my bike’s fuel gauge. One fine Sunday I gave it nice quick wash, soaked it for an hour, headed to gas station and on the way to gas station it showed me first sign of gauge failure. Dealer said they will change it as a goodwill, mine is 2017 model so it’s totally out of warranty. Now waiting on part to arrive.

So the whole "flashing gauge" issue ... strangely enough, my distance to empty and fuel levels do eventually come back, but the gauge seems to be flashing "--" more often than not.

Anyway, for people that have had their dealer replace parts and fix this problem, can you share the part numbers that were replaced? Buying the part and repairing on my own can't be that terrible, can it? Pull the tank off the bank, flip it over, maybe disconnect and undo a few parts to pull the pump assembly? No one has tacked this on their own yet?

Just an fyi if anyone is about to get their fuel sender unit fixed. Mine went on me last year. Decided to finaly get it fixed. My bike is way out of warranty. 4 years old. I asked my dealer to see if Ducati NA would do anything to help since this is a known parts defect and that they have yet to resolve the issue. At first Ducati said no because they had no record of me maintaining the bike. I said that all my yearly services were through a Ducati dealership. I was able to take pics of all my receipts. The new dealer that I brought my bike to for this service was not the same as the one I used previously. Anyway they sent my copies to Ducati. Ducati offered to pay for the part. It was of savings of around $160. I paid for labour ... 1 hour.
So I think this was reasonable for a 4 year old bike.

I replaced sender already twice for the 4 years I own the bike (basically each 2 years). I did it myself cause bike was out of warranty. First time I got unit 59210251A (which is original one for 2017 model) and it served for another 2 years. Last time I got updated version 59210251B. Hope this one will last longer. But I noticed that latest version already out and its 59210251C.

I just checked my reciept. They didnt list the part no. When I spoke with the service advisor he mentioned they were on their 7th iteration. So who knows how long this new one will last. If I get 4 years out of it . Ill be satisfied at this point.

So I sold my SSS yesterday to a nice guy who drove a couple of hours to pick it up. His first Ducati. We looked it over, he took it for a ride. I told him the only issue I had ever had was with the fuel sensor, and that the dealer had replaced it.

He got home, filled the bike, and the friggin problem showed up, first day he owns it! I felt so bad when he texted me.

I told him I would make it right, if the dealer charged for it, but they likely would get Ducati to cover it. Let's hope so!

What timing! These fuels sensors have been an issue for years apparently. My 2015 Diavel had to get it replaced 2x. First one was faulty within first year but second one lasted much longer. Thought they fixed these by now guess not.

My fuel gauge started to play up with the usual symptoms last September the bike has been off the road for the winter until last Monday. Storing it for months hasn't made the problem go away. 4600 miles and 3 years old she hasn't had a hard life so far. Surly they can get a fuel gauge to work in this day and age?
I have her booked in for the annual service next month. They have suggested that they try a software upgrade before replacing the fuel sender, I will let you know how it goes.

Well my brand new replacement gauge with zero miles on it didnt even work properly once the dealer delivered my bike back to me. It stopped flashing empty . But is only showing half a tank of fuel and remianing range 49 km. All while I have a full tank of gas. Mentioned it dealer they said to bring it in once I start riding it again in the Spring.
Crazy these things are faulty even before they install them. What is so difficult about a making a reliable gauge. Heck just copy whatever the Japanese brands are using if you have to.
