Hello! Considering SS and am looking for advice

Hey All, I live just North of Baltimore, MD.

I have a 2012 Tuono v4 I am thinking of trading for a newer Tuono Factory or a SS. I spent about 1.5 hours at the dealership today and am thinking of getting the SS. They have a deal for $12k on it with free panniers as an offer. I love love love my Tuono but the nearest certified service station is over 2.5 hours away... Ducati is only 25 minutes. I am tired of dealing with service issues on the Tuono V4 even though I am happy with the bike overall and would recommend Aprilia to others.

Whether I get the Tuono Factory, get the SS, an SS-S, or keep my V4 is based on the economics of trade in, incentives and cost. I know what Aprilia will give me for the V4 and I am not too happy about it, it's low. I am planning on getting a test ride on the SS when I bring my bike in for appraisal. If I like it and the numbers make sense I will pull the trigger same day.

The big question is, if I get the SS are there any factory upgrades you recommend I might as well get when I buy the bike? Is there any reason not to get the SS-S? I think they would sell an SS-S white for 14500... apparently they have been hard to get in and they sell fast. The last they had sold in about 4-5 days.

Thanks for the help. Thoughts are appreciated.

I was also thinking about the new factory; great bike and for the same support issues I went with the SSs. They are quite different bikes you need to go for a test ride. I do miss the Tuono power. The SSs is great and i'm very happy with the bike. Since the SS is new there are not alot of upgrades available for the bike. It's not a bike that needs much - many of us are waiting for an aftermarket exhaust. The SSs will give you Ohlins and a up/down quickshifter.

Good luck and let us know how the test ride goes.
Thanks. I was more wondering if the stock SS stuff was okay, or is the rear shock or brakes lacking? If so I would replace them at the time of purchase. I am looking forward to the test ride.
The brakes are used on most 1L bikes. Never had any brake fade with them in the mountains where travelling the same roads my Lexus brakes have faded through heat. ohlins Suspension (S model) is adjustable to suit and the factory sets them at the midway Mark.
The stock bike is good as is. You will miss the power of the Aprilia, so don't try and compare the engines. They are simply different and not intended for the same purposes. The deal you mentioned with the free panniers is a fantastic deal and may be the single best one I've heard of on here. I certainly didn't get anywhere close to that!! Keep us posted.

Go for the S but I feel you will miss the power of the Aprilia. So get a test ride and see.
I traded the Tuono and got the SS. I probably should have waited a few more months to find a used one and save the $1000 in shipping... but I only had a little time to get to it due to such a busy schedule. I bought it and am happy. I like the engine in 2nd to 6th gears. The transmission needs a good whacking to engage for now. The mirrors shake some, not bad during the day but makes gauging distance at night impossible. The riding position is good, but I am not sure i am happy where my feet sit, it might just take some time to get used to. I really like the tightness of the frame, tires, and shocks. It holds well in turns and is more nimble than the Tuono. This thing is hot, man it puts out some heat... the engine runs about the same as the V4 but the insulation is suspect. I like it, I would really have liked to see about 15 more horses out of the engine, but to get the same mileage they'd have to increase the tank size. It's a good bike but I might be tempted to trade it for a bigger engine replacement.

I'm looking forward to contributing to the community here. Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on the bike.

I feel the same about the HP. If an exhaust / mapping combo comes out that gets it to around 130Hp I am all in .

Isn't that a substantial jump to have just using a mapping mod?
