Made a tank guard and fitted electronics

4215 Views 19 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  amoslws
I made a padded tank pad for my tank bag to sit on without scratching the tank, I will make a full cover when I get the time. Also I insulted under the seat to reduce the heat (works well) and finished off fitting my electronics.

What electronics. If its security then no need to expand, otherwise let us in on what you've done

Nicely done. What material did you use under the seat for heat protection?

I used automotive firewall under felt, I just trimmed it to size and shape very easy. The idea is to keep the heat off the legs and also to give me a cooler dry and dust proof area if I want to store and charge anything as I am riding

In your estimation, how much reduction have you experienced? 20%, 30%...? And where on the legs were you experiencing the heat mostly? For me, it is the back of my thighs.

In my opinion a slightly scratched tank would look better than having that black thing fitted. Everyone to their own I suppose.

Yeah the bike looks great as is and better without it. But it only takes 30 sec to put on or take off were as scratches are forever. That being said I made a complete custome tank guard to protect my Gsx 1000 with 3M clear tape in strategic places never got a mark on that bike till I slid out on a corner and wrote it off. >:)
Got some serious talents there, I couldn't make anything like that if my life depended on me.

I'm also extremely interested on the electronics that you are talking about for that much benjamins... hmm...

You insulted the under side of your seat? How rude...

With respect the electronics, does the bike have an open accessory plug or port besides the USB under the seat ? Thanks.

It has the DDA port for the techs to use for diagnostics, plus there are multiple wires that can be tapped for power options of your own.

Thanks, but not being a techy I need more specific information

There is one plug on the right under the tank, 2 on the left and possible another one on the left side just outside the fairing.

if you want a switched feed (i.e. a feed that is on while the ignition is on and off when the ignition is off)then there is a good feed on the right side of the tank look at the feed Good Advice For New Owners and you will see loads of info and photos

This is an old thread topic, yes there are three. Two on the left and one on the right. All three work when key is on. Check under the tank at the front of the frame.
