NJ - first ride impressions!

Got the call on Thursday that the bike was finally in. Went down to the dealer on Friday, mid-day, to finalize paperwork , payment etc.
Being that it was almost 100 degrees and knowing the traffic on the Garden State Pkwy on Fridays is always insane, I chose to have the bike delivered that afternoon. Turned out to be a decision...the delivery guy said he was sitting it heavy traffic and thankful that he has AC i n the van.
Couldnt ride it Saturday due to the fact that I probably shouldnt miss my daughters college graduation......so Sunday was the first ride.

Got up early and headed straight for Bear Mountain/ 7 Lakes Drive. Started out in Touring mode for the 30 min ride on the highway. Immediately noticed the mirror issue...its real and Ducati needs to address this. Once in the park , I enjoyed the luxury of torque everywhere and not having to shift in every single corner, unless I wanted to. After going through the park and a half a tank of gas later I put it in Sport mode. Major difference...power comes right on , doesnt build like in Touring. I think I will customize Sport with DTC 4 and ABS 3 and use that as my default riding mode.
Some other thoughts:
  • Riding position is as described..very comortable
  • Fueling is spot on
  • Seat is very comfortable
  • Touring windscreen is nice but shoulders still getting some wind
  • Neutral is a challenge in the beginning
  • Ohlins smooth but a little soft for 175lbs..will eventually make adjustments.
  • Heat isnt that bad......to be expected.
  • DQS is smooth but likes you to just let off a little on Down shifts. Perhaps this get better over time?
  • There is ZERO storage space on this bike. Getting a small tank bag this week.

After 120 miles on the first day, I walked away happy with my purchase. Looking forward to getting through the break-in phase and hoping a few things get smoother.

Congrats! I share your exact sentiments about the storage space, I was surprised that it was non existent. Which tank bag do you plan on purchasing?

Too bad it will be raining all week in the NY/NJ area, I was really hoping to get up to 600 miles before next weekend so that I can do my first service :(

I was told that you are supposed to close the throttle for downshifts with the DQS; it then blips for you automatically.

The alternate news here is about bike shipments. NJ is where they import from Italy. Once the bikes clear customs here they get on out to the dealers. That you have a bike from a NJ dealership on Thursday means my bike is well on it's way to Oregon by now!
How long from being told of shipment till the bike arrived? I was informed late last week but I'm in New Mexico...
Every bike I've ridden with auto-blipper needs throttle off for smooth down shifting.

Thanks for all of the replies. This is my first bike with a quick shifter and I did ask the sales guy, but I got wrong advice. Makes perfect sense to me to cut the throttle.

I am leaning towards this one:

The dealer didnt find out about shipment until the bike cleared customs at the port. The bike was at the dealer 2 days later.
No storage space at all?? Does that mean I can't even put my sunglasses and wallet under the seat?

Might be able to squeeze them in. There are some gaps along the side fairings near the tail.

There is no room under there except for the small tool kit. Like Klev mentioned there are a few small slots for glasses in a protective case but I would not trust my wallet back there.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is the fairing on the left / shifter side is too close to the shifter. I had a few scuffs already from my boots after one ride. Might have to wrap that piece.
