Other exhaust options

Just picked up my new SuperSport on Saturday. Rode the piss out of it over the weekend and love it so far. Definitely going to replace the stock exhaust in the near future. So my question is, other than the Akrapovic options available from Ducati, when do you think will start seeing other manufacturers stepping in? And once they do, is it as simple as fitting the aftermarket exhaust then having the dealer update the ECU? Thanks for any input!

Going for a different aftermarket may result in additional cost, such as the need to buy a power commander and have it dyno tuned. The akra full system is expensive but it includes the air filter and the mapping. This subject has been on the forum for sometime and a few of us have had responses from various manufacturers but so far nothing has been forthcoming. The dates we had been given have come and gone so my guess is that something will be released in the coming weeks.
I've done a little skimming, but is there a general consensus if the slip on system is worth the cost? Is there a noticeable power delivery difference? Is there any dino numbers between the stock system and the slip on? Thanks again.

To me...and this is only my opinion, NO slip-on is worth $1,300USD!! That's absolutely ridiculous! My personal ceiling for a slip-on is $600...and it would have to be awesome looking! Slip-ons, by nature, do not provide any worthwhile performance increase, if any at all. They are for looks and sound only. Just as a reference, the Akra for my Hyper is $600 and is full titanium.

And to add to that, I've read where the Akra slip-on for our SS doesn't sound as good as the stock...but it is better looking. To each their own...

Good topic here...one that has me waiting for a bit before I make a choice. I almost got the Akra slip on when I picked up the bike, but I thought the price was high as well and I am nw waiting to see what else comes out for the SS. You cant get your hopes up for big HP/Torque performance gains with a slip on. The Akra is really just for looks and thats why the $1200+ price tag has problems.

In my humble opinion I feel that the slip on does sound different from the stock pipes, it's slightly louder but deeper sound, but boy it sounds much better at 7000 plus.

I seriously considered the full system, but I'm afraid I don't like the looks of it along with other issues. I'm hoping some one comes out with a decat pipe. Akrapovic are very cagey about this. I wrote to them and they didn't say yes, but they didn't say no either. The only issue is with a full decat system the bike needs a remap. Currently that is only possible with purchasing the full system. But it's early days yet.

There's no doubt that Ducati overcharge for the slip ons. But they do look better than the stock pipes, whether it's value for money we have to decide that as individuals.

I am of the opinion that a remap is not needed but just desirable. I have de catted quite a few of my bikes in the past, the latest being my SBK848 with only positive results. I might have gained an extra 2% power with a remap, but would not have used that power or even realised it was there.
What the decat did give was a better mid range pull and a better exhaust sound, as well as an increase in economy. That was the same on the BMWs that I have owned and given the same treatment.
I would LOVE to have the Akra slip-on and would gladly pay ~$600 for it. In my mind, I can somewhat justify that. There is nothing in my head that can justify $1,300!! Frankly, I'm outraged by that price and feel like its blatant price gouging! I mean, how can they (Akra/Ducati) justify that price when, for instance, the Hyper version from Akra is less than half? What makes the SS so much better as to cost more than double?! Not to mention that around here, when going in for a trade, the dealers don't even recognize slip-ons as a value added item, therefore, you get no money for them down the road in resale. Its a complete waste of money other than for your own personal benefit...no resale value whatsoever. Ducati branded slip-ons may be different, but I don't know for sure. However, when I looked up the trade-in value of my Hyper, it gave no option for a slip-on exhaust as an adder.

I know that on Japanese bikes, if you have the full race system installed, they DO give you some money for that, but not for slip-ons. I only have experience with local dealers, though, so YMMV.

yep, I agree, around 7000 it suddenly develops a roar.
Just a quick bump. Still no word from any other exhaust companies? I'm getting pretty tired of my SS sounding like a sewing machine!

Read my post from June and still no other options. Based on the various emails I have received from aftermarket sales staff I would suggest they don't know themselves when exhausts will be released.
I noticed that but as it is more cosmetic than sounding different I still don't think that it is worth the money. If it was priced at €120 I might think about it.
Cosmetics do not interest me as I have no need to impress others.

Not sure that I understand. I bought the bike that I like to ride and can afford, I don't care what others think. If it was an image thing then I would have kept my 848 SBK. I have nothing to prove to anyone.

I'd have to agree with Fred here.. the bike should be about the ride and what we can afford.. not to impress anyone else... but in saying that eye candy will be for myself and lets face it all that admires our bikes stock looking or eye candy to the max feels good but deep down it's what suits our desires and no one could judge a stock looking bike or a eye candy bike..
You guys don't take jokes of ridiculed irony well. Jesus.

Aargh! C'mon SC Projects! I've gone down the road before with a custom Ti full exhaust system (StradaFab). You run the risk for needing a ECU remap ($400+, depending), dyno tune ($300+, fine dial in), and needing a Power Commander (?). It all adds up. Equivocal whether this is performance value added. IMO, it's worth gainng some more HP and Torque for this bike, removal of the udder, and getting the growl it should have.

I wonder if it's because it's a new ECU and no-one has really cracked it properly yet to reflash. Termi would be the first on the list to offer a reflash purchase, and the last to offer anything if there was no performance benefit.
