Can anyone who has seen the bike in person comment on if the Supersport is clearcoated like the 1299 or is non-cleared like the 899?

I believe all Ducatis use base coat/clear coat urethane paints, but the matte finishes use a matte clear.
Actually, this was an issue on the 899s and I believe the 959s, which don't have a clear on the red, making it easy to haze and scratch.
One of the recent reviews on the supersport suggested a tank pad needs to be fitted asap as the tank started to scuff during the test. That sounds like no clear coat to me. Why would Ducati not use clear coat on some models? I get it with the matt white finish, but why wouldn't you use clear on the red?
I didn't know there were still bikes that come out without clear coat over the base coat :| That sounds kind of dark ages doesn't it?

Today's automotive paint systems are urethane base coat/clear coat and I'm sure all Ducatis use some variation of this chemistry. The clear is needed for protection of the color coat from UV fading and scratching.

Not ALL Ducati's do, for sure. Go to the showroom and you can clearly see (pun intended) that the 1299 is cleared and the 959 isn't (as well as the 899/959 forums). Based on the initial reviewers, and that they were going for a price point below the 959 with the SS, I'm asking the question.
I'm beginning to think I wasted my time posting the link to the Owner Manual.
Other Ducati manuals list their respective paint codes, and the Super Sport is no different. Page 313 lists a clear coat for both colors.

Suggest you try to find something else to fret over. >:)

Oldndumb, thank you for pointing out that information from page 313. Why you present it in a condescending way, I don't know, this is a **FORUM** for people to ask questions and share, but thank you nonetheless for clearing this up with solid information.

I've noticed the pattern, it's not the first time, thanks for pointing it out. It makes newbies to the whole Ducati brand such as myself a little apprehensive asking for any advice.

yes it is clear coat paint:

Ducati Anniversary Red

see page 313 of your manual, white primer, red primer and clear coat, PPG codes listed for all.

I need to touch up a couple of gnat sized chips on the tail cowling. Anyone know if Testors Red 1103 model paint will match?
Holy thread revival....

I don't know about Testors, but I use White Out.

>:)
But 7, I have the pretty faster RED, not the slow flat white color.
You're misinformed. White is faster and superior.

All three Moderators here ride white. Just sayin...

I said it first, meaning: Red is faster,

you're a day late and a dollar short.

Ha...you just arrived to a long standing, fun filled, back and forth rubbing. You're 2 years late and a $1,000 short!

Plus, this poll says whites are supreme. 'Nuff said...

I took it to mean the blokes who bought red ones are too busy riding to take the time to complete a poll...

This!!!

Red bike riders know their bikes are dead sexy and faster, they don’t have to keep trying to convince everyone that white is better. Because it’s just not :)

I don't get your point? The red bikes outnumber the white ones according to your link, 79 to 70. I am not sure that proves who's supreme but it could indicate color blindness afflicting riders that own white bikes, otherwise I am unsure.

But what about Testors red?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again I'm sure. There's a reason you've heard of Rosso Corsa as the national color of Italian motorsport racing, but never heard of Bianca Corsa.
