Does it? There were even spy photos of its replacement?! Whether it’s the precisely same character as the SS, who knows, but the moderate power output points to more SS like than Pani V2 like.

Edit
The description of the engine also makes it sound like some more road oriented:

the V2 is designed to maximize riding enjoyment on both road and track, making it a game-changer for every type of rider.

a wide and usable delivery curve,

It’s not just about speed; this engine is crafted to provide smooth, responsive handling that makes every twist of the throttle exciting and delivers a difference that you'll feel from
the moment you hit the road.

@Dino de Laurentiis My guess is still MS V2, Sport Bike V2 (but less aggressive than the current V2), but not a SuperSport. Although it’s possible, maybe, that the 120 hp Sport Bike version is more track oriented and the 115 hp Sport Bike is more like VFR, and with luggage?

We shall see!!! Exciting!
yeah, to me a mix of sportiness between the SS and V2 sounds ideal, as long as it’s not as uncomfortable as the V2.

If there is a 115 hp touring Sport Bike version, the different in power might not even be noticeable compared with the existing SuperSport.

But the new motor should be much smoother, and lighter, and the motorcycle will probably not have a single sided swing arm, so lighter motorcycle overall. More nimble. Maybe around 430 lbs wet and fully fueled. We shall see!!!

So why have Ducati gone down a route that, at first glance, can only be conceived as a downgrade in terms of specification in everything but weight?

“This is not a superbike engine, but something different that’s built to be fun for the road,” Gianluca Zattoni, Ducati’s Head of Engine Management told us during an exclusive visit to the factory. “We’ve focused on making the new V2 light, compact and smooth, with good fuel consumption and emission numbers. Because of this, not a single part has been carried over from the previous model.”

In reality, the investment of a whole new motor means that the V2 is likely to cover the Mutlistrada, DesertX, Monster, Streetfighter, and Panigale models, at the very least.

Looks like current Superquardro V2 at base of motor is gears to short chain, then at top end is from chain to gears to cams.

Whereas new V2 motor appears to be chain directly to cams. So not related to current Superquardro V2 configuration.

In a German article it said that it's the same system as in Suzuki's 1037cc V2. Which would indeed be chain to gear to cams.

So you'd only have to check the valves every 30k km and have no more belts to replace.
I'm looking forward to the new engine, but I fear we won't see a touring oriented Supersport like ours with this one.
