I hope they give it a name. "V2" is far too generic.

Conventional valve springs, so non desmo, but no increase in valve check intervals. Timing chains retained from superquadro.
I thought the camshafts are gear driven, not chain?

Looks like current Superquardro V2 at base of motor is gears to short chain, then at top end is from chain to gears to cams.

Whereas new V2 motor appears to be chain directly to cams. So not related to current Superquardro V2 configuration.

In a German article it said that it's the same system as in Suzuki's 1037cc V2. Which would indeed be chain to gear to cams.

So you'd only have to check the valves every 30k km and have no more belts to replace.
I'm looking forward to the new engine, but I fear we won't see a touring oriented Supersport like ours with this one.

That would be awesome. Also, make the engine more robust. The number of engines destroyed or damaged by failed timing chain adjusters is significant.

Edit: nope. I can see the chain in the illustration above. Interesting how the chain runs a center gear that runs both cams. I've not seen that before. Usually the chain runs the cam sprockets directly.

I found this to be a good overview of the difference between the old testastretta and superquadro and the new v2 engine.

One take away being that the new engine makes peak torque much higher up than the testastretta (quite close to the superquadro in fact) but that that the Intake Variable Timing should make up for at least some of that. Looking forward to see what new bike models featuring this engine that will be presented at EICMA this week.

I could be wrong on this, but my guess is we won’t feel a huge difference in the seat-of-the-pants feel of the Testastretta motor versus new V2 motor in terms of power and torque; the biggest difference may be the refinement of the new V2 motor, and weight savings.

I think (hope?) that the new one will have a bit more pull/feel at the top end than the TS 11*. It does have a shorter stroke and bigger bore after all so will very likely be more rev happy.

I think it will, a bit… but pretty certain the new V2 motor will feel so much more refined. My Superquadro feels much more refined than the Testastretta.
